A note from the Councillor
Hello residents of Ward 13
In October, we have the chance to gather with family and be thankful for the good things in our lives. But for some of the people in our community, there’s too little to be thankful for. I want to challenge each of you to find a way to support those people who need help this fall. The London Food Bank’s Fall Food Drive is underway, and they need your help. If you can find some room in your budget to give a donation to the Food Bank, it would bring some much needed relief to our neighbours. Compassion is the best way to show your thankfulness.
Regards,
David Ferreira
Councillor Ward 13, London Ontario
City of London to Recognize National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
On September 30, the City of London commemorated the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to honour the survivors of residential schools and their communities. This day emphasized the significance of understanding the traumatic history of residential schools as a part of the reconciliation process. Additionally, September 30 was recognized as Orange Shirt Day, a movement initiated in 2013 to shed light on the intergenerational effects of Indian Residential Schools.

Neighbourhood Decision Making
Is there a need for playground upgrades at your local park? Do you have a vision for a beautiful mural in your community? Would you like to host a tree planting event in your neighbourhood?
The City of London’s Neighbourhood Decision Making program is where you can submit ideas to improve your local neighbourhood.
A total of $250,000 is available through the program to enhance neighbourhoods across the city. Individual project submissions for funding up to $30,000, closed September 29. Improved Access at Riverside Boat Launch Will Soon Help Londoners Scattering Funeral Ashes
Improvements are underway at Riverside Boat Launch in London to provide a dedicated space for scattering funeral ashes along the Thames River.
While there are no restrictions on scattering ashes in city parks or the river, the enhanced site will offer a tranquil and safe location for mourners. Londoners are advised to remain cautious near the river and avoid leaving non-biodegradable items behind during the ritual.
More information about scattering funeral ashes is available online.
Navigating London’s Busiest Construction Season
London saw thousands of students return to school last month, coinciding with numerous road construction projects throughout the city. Navigating these areas are challenging, and we have included tips to ensure safe transit. There are approximately 50 construction projects taking place, essential for the city’s growth and safety. Notably, Quebec Street in Old East Village had recently reopened, and Queens Avenue’s reopening had facilitated westbound downtown travel, though some minor restrictions remained for cleanup tasks. **Please see link for more information.
