Climate Change and the Environment

Climate Change is that big growing elephant in the room. This is a global issue that requires efforts from every individual that has a carbon footprint. We are cumulatively responsible for one of the biggest anthropogenic footprints in our region of Southwestern Ontario.

  • Work with community, business and government partners to protect our Forest City
  • Take necessary actions to preserve our forested areas and wildlife habitat
  • Preserve our existing green spaces, and ensure Landscaped Open Space is incorporated into new development
  • Encourage and support residents who seek to naturalize their properties and citizen stewardship of public spaces
  • Net zero tree removal program and establish a tree by-law that protects a diversity of tree species and young emerging strong saplings
  • Where feasible, open boulevards to support healthier street trees
  • Develop stormwater management systems that utilize biomimicry and low impact development techniques to protect our watersheds, sub watersheds, major tributaries, and creeks from wastewater discharge
  • Accelerate London’s green bin program implementation
  • Build more roundabout intersections where applicable
  • Increase bike routes/lanes and make accessible to all Londoners
  • Fully electrify public transportation
  • Support efforts and incentives for super-insulation of homes and buildings
  • Change building development requirements to incorporate energy conservation such as solar renewable energy, rooftops gardens and the reuse of greywater
