A note from the Councillor

Hello Ward 13

February was a busy and challenging month for council and the city. The Health and Homelessness Summits held recently produced a formal plan, the Whole of Community System Response plan. The plan was brought to the Strategic Priorities and Policy Committee on February 28 along side our Strategic Plan report concerning the Draft Strategies and Order of Magnitude Costing. I’m glad to see so many Londoners coming together to find real solutions for our most vulnerable neighbours.

And despite the nasty weather, our Community Ward meeting was a great success. Thanks to everyone who made it through the snow to participate; and a special thank you to everyone who provided feedback. I plan on holding regular ward meetings throughout the term, so please stay tuned.

Please visit my website www.davidferreira.ca for newsletters, ward meetings, current city initiatives and other resources.
Regards,
David Ferreira
Councillor Ward 13, London Ontario

2. Health and Homelessness Summit: Whole of Community System Response Plan

The impacts of health and Homelessness has been identified by our community, and a whole of community response model has been codeveloped through the work of the Health and Homelessness Summits. The proposed system aims to support the whole community – those who are marginalized and experiencing homelessness, those working in the system, and those trying to provide support, including businesses and community members who also experience the impacts of this crisis.

Temporary lane restrictions: Wellington Street, just north of the King Street intersection
Starting on Monday, February 13, 2023, temporary lane restrictions will be in place at Wellington Street, just north of the King Street intersection to allow for utility relocation in preparation for construction of the Downtown Loop Phase 3 and Wellington Gateway Phase 1 projects, which are anticipated to be in place until approximately Friday, March 31, 2023.
Drivers travelling northbound on Wellington Street are advised to expect delays and are encouraged to use alternative routes where possible, and to plan ahead by using navigation apps such as Waze or Google Maps. Signs will be installed to help guide traffic through the area.
Sidewalk restrictions will be in place throughout this work and pedestrians will be redirected through a temporary walkway on the east side of Wellington Street.
London Transit bus stop #1939, which is located on Wellington Street just south of Dundas Street will be closed during this time. Transit riders taking routes # 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 19 and 106 are advised to catch the bus at Queens Avenue and Clarence Street, and to visit the LTC website for service updates.
Businesses remain open and accessible during this work.

Parking Regulations – Waterloo Street from Dufferin Avenue to Oxford Street E
Pursuant to the Waterloo and Piccadilly Area Traffic Study, a road diet is recommended on Waterloo Street to reduce traffic speeding within the school zone while providing additional on-street parking capacity. Waterloo Street will see one northbound traffic lane to be converted to on-street parking between Harvard Street and Piccadilly Street except at the intersections.
This change is expected to yield approximately 22 parking spaces, which could be signed with a maximum 2-hour limit to match current restrictions along Piccadilly Street.
It is also recommended to extend the same 2-hour parking on the east side of Waterloo Street from Pall Mall Street to the existing parking at Dufferin Avenue except at intersections. This will add another 280 m or 42 parking spaces to assist with parking capacity and result in a consistent road cross-section from Dundas Street to Piccadilly Street.
There will not be any changes to the existing parking regulations on the west side of Waterloo Street form Oxford Street E to Dufferin Avenue.
Pursuant to the June 22, 2021, report to Civic Works Committee, Civic Administration was directed to implement the recommendations in the Waterloo and Piccadilly Area Traffic Study.
The proposed changes will take place if passed at the March 7th, 2023 Council meeting.
Once passed a work order to install the necessary parking regulation signs will be issued and completed as work schedules and available resources permit.
